The Pacific National Exhibition is a non profit organization which hosts an annual 17-day summer fair, seasonal amusement park, and arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It usually begins in mid-to-late August, and ends in early September, usually Labour Day.

The PNE has played an important role in the history of Vancouver. From its beginnings as a showcase for the region’s agriculture and economy, it has grown immensely. This growth has resulted in many questions about the fair’s future at Hastings Park. Beginning in 1997, the city has restored a large portion of the park. Many old fair buildings have been demolished and replaced by a more natural character. Although land was purchased in Surrey that was to become the fair’s new home, the PNE has since transferred ownership from the province to the city of Vancouver and will remain at Hastings Park. The PNE is a registered charity.

Nail Salon Ladner

A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands performed at home or in a nail salon. A manicure treatment is not only a treatment for the natural nails, but also for the hands. A manicure consists of filing, shaping of the free edge, treatments, massage of the hand and the application of polish. There are also manicure services that are specialties for the hands and feet. For the hands, the soaking of a softening substance and the application of a lotion is a common specialty. When applied to the toenails and feet, this treatment is referred to as a pedicure. The word “manicure” derives from Latin: manus for “hands,” cura for “care.”

A pedicure is a way to improve the appearance of the feet and the nails. It provides a similar service to a manicure. The word pedicure refers to superficial cosmetic treatment of the feet and toenails. A pedicure can help prevent nail diseases and nail disorders. Pedicures are done for cosmetic, theraputic and medical purposes. They’re extremely popular throughout the world, primarily among women.

Pedicures are not just limited to nails; usually dead skin cells on the bottom of feet are rubbed off using a rough stone called a pumice stone. Additionally, leg care below the knee became a common and now expected service included in pedicures. Leg care includes depilation via either shaving or waxing followed by granular exfoliation, application of moisturizing creams, and a brief leg massage.

Vancouver International Burlesque Festival

 Burlesque Festival in Vancouver

May 3-6

The Vancouver International Burlesque Festival is an annual event taking place over three days and featuring dancers, comedians and musicians. The festival debuted in February 2006.

The Vancouver International Burlesque Festival is making a bold move this year dedicating one night of its 7th annual festival to burlesque with live music.

“Back in the day burlesque was performed with live bands” says Blue Morris, a festival rep. “They didn’t play records. All that bumping and grinding would have made the records skip.”

The first night of the festival this May will take place in East Van’s historic Rio Theatre and all the acts on that night will be supported by live musicians.

Vancouver has become a hotbed for burlesque in North America. On any given week this fair town has at least one burlesque show, if not two or three. “Vancouver is a creative city” says festival rep Sparkle Plenty. “Burlesque attracts all kinds of artistic people interested in dance, theatre, music, costumes, and g-strings.
